The Toronto Blue Jays are a Canadian professional baseball team and the only Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise based outside the United States, having joined as an expansion team in 1977. Known colloquially as the "Jays," they play home games at Rogers Centre in Toronto since 1989 and are owned by Rogers Communications. After an initial period typical of an expansion club, the Blue Jays became an American League East powerhouse between 1985 and 1993, securing five division championships. This dominant era culminated in historic back-to-back World Series championships in 1992 and 1993, making them the first and only non-U.S. team to win the title, led by stars like Hall of Famer Roberto Alomar and Joe Carter. Following a long playoff drought, the Jays have experienced a resurgence with multiple playoff berths since 2015, maintaining a notable .500 overall win-loss record as of 2025.
