Freshly was a New York City-based convenience food delivery company, founded in 2012 by Michael Wystrach and Carter Comstock, which aimed to provide nutritious, ready-to-heat meals. The company grew substantially, delivering one million meals per week throughout the contiguous U.S. and actively donating excess food through its partnership with Feeding America. After raising significant funding rounds, Freshly was acquired by Nestlé in October 2020 for a remarkable US$950 million, with potential for further earn-out payments. Post-acquisition, it expanded into business-to-business delivery and specialized diet services, opening distribution centers across the country. However, despite its growth and investment, Freshly ultimately ceased all operations in January 2023, leading to former investors suing Nestlé over alleged unpaid earn-out payments.
